HAPPENINGS IN ROBINA
Tragedy Close to Home

A devastating house fire in nearby Hope Island has shocked communities across the Gold Coast, serving as a heartbreaking reminder that domestic violence affects every suburb.
Police allege a 38-year-old man deliberately set fire to a home on Sickle Avenue late on June 30, just days after a domestic violence order was issued against him. The blaze claimed the lives of two men, including 84-year-old Robert Marsh, who died after trying to help others escape. Another man remains in critical condition, while a woman and her son survived by jumping from a second-storey balcony.
Amid the tragedy, neighbours Eli Bijl-Kakoi and Meihana Pauling are being praised for their quick thinking after forcing open a garage door to rescue those trapped inside.
This was a sobering reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence and the extraordinary courage shown by everyday people in times of crisis.

Brophy’s Circus is Here This Weekend

Brophy’s Circus has officially extended its highly popular stay at Robina Town Centre, continuing to perform under the massive big top through Sunday, July 12, 2026.
The circus is pitched directly at the corner of Lido Promenade and Collyer Quay, right opposite Event Cinemas. Because the setup takes up a major slice of the promenade and surrounding parking footprint, spaces are filling up much faster than usual.
Visitors are strongly advised to arrive early to secure a parking spot before showtime. Book tickets online.

Gold Coast Marathon

More than 43,000 runners descended on the Coast for the ASICS Gold Coast Marathon, delivering another bumper weekend for local businesses.
For everyone else? It was a masterclass in creative route planning.
The actual running course stretched along the coastal strip, with police-controlled road closures extending from Paradise Point in the north to Miami in the south. Miami sits directly on the northern border of Burleigh Heads, which is why the local arterial roads and traffic connections faced such heavy congestion over the weekend.
Getting anywhere near Robina over the weekend often required equal parts patience, local knowledge, and blind optimism.

Then make it even better with dessert at Captain Yo, now serving authentic Italian gelato alongside frozen yogurt and fresh focaccia.
