Good morning Robina.
It has been a week of intense shifts for our suburb. From the viral motorbike crash that has ignited fresh debates over road safety to the heated political row over "affordable housing" mandates, the tension on our streets is palpable.
We’re tracking a major pivot in the local landscape this week: police have ramped up high-visibility tactical operations at community hotspots, and the long-awaited infrastructure overhaul at the Robina Library has finally broken ground.
Here is everything you need to know about what’s happening in Robina this week.

HAPPENINGS IN ROBINA
Illegal Teen Dirt Bike Stunt Ends in Crash

A rider in his early 20s narrowly escaped death after performing high-speed wheelies for a camera right down a public street in Robina. He violently lost control, flew over the handlebars, and skidded down the road, narrowly missing a light pole before being rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital.
To make matters worse, authorities later revealed the dirt bike was completely unregistered.
This isn't just about one kid making a terrible mistake for social media clout. It hits a deeply raw nerve for our community. Our streets are starting to feel less like a neighborhood and more like a playground for lawlessness.

Robina Community Hub Traffic Shake-Up

Heads up if you are heading down to grab a book or drop into the Community Centre this week!
Our local Division 11 Councillor, Dan Doran, just officially confirmed that crews have officially broken ground on a major pedestrian overhaul right around the Robina Community Centre and Robina Library hub.
For the next few weeks, expect some localized traffic disruptions, temporary parking closures, and minor walking detours directly around the library precinct.
Check project maps and timing updates posted on Councillor Dan Doran’s Official Local Facebook Hub.
The 'Construction Curse'—are you losing your mind yet?
We all want the "long-term gain," but let’s be honest: the reality of the daily detour is a massive headache.
Has this overhaul pushed you over the edge, or are you gritting your teeth for the final result?
Operation Yankee Forge Update

Following the high-profile arrest of the four teenagers you covered last week, local police have ramped up the next phase of "Operation Yankee Forge". Taskforce resources have officially shifted toward high-visibility tactical team tracking around Robina Station and the stadium parklands, which local community groups have flagged as late-night convergence zones.
It proves the crackdown wasn't just a one-off news cycle. Police are actively responding to community-reported "hotspots" rather than just patrolling major main roads.

Dog Yoga World Record Attempt

The city just officially kicked off "Go Gold Coast Month". To kick off "Go Gold Coast Month," locals and their pups gathered at Kurrawa Park in Broadbeach at 7:00 AM on Friday, June 26, 2026, for a 30-minute session hosted by She's Spicy Pilates.
Just over 100 pooches turned up, meaning the global crown safely remains in the paws of Edmonton, Canada, where 408 dogs stretched together back in 2019.
Even though we didn't break the record this time, it was a fantastic morning out.
Affordable Housing Controversy

The massive 2,500-home Lakesview development in Robina and Merrimac was recently greenlit, but a major political row has erupted. Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie defended a decision ordering the developer, Walker Group, to axe its planned 20% affordable housing mandate—wiping out over 500 cheaper homes.
Bleijie argues that cutting mandates slashes red tape to get "supply, supply, supply" out of the ground faster. However, the decision has left Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate demanding affordable housing guarantees, while local essential workers and young buyers are furious that the entire 50-hectare master-planned sector will now be priced at premium market rates.
- Pathway Safety: Installation of new, dedicated pedestrian pathways.
- Accessibility: Addition of fully Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant access ramps.
- Traffic Control: Strategic placement of new safety bollards and upgraded shared road line markings.
- Cyclist Provision: Installation of newly upgraded bike parking facilities.
- Road Drainage: Active kerb and channel works.
Note: Construction is expected to cause localized traffic disruptions through the first weeks of July.
Demonstrating sustained, fierce appetite for premium lakeside real estate, this notable transaction saw a competitive buyer lock down a substantial 928-square-meter block right on the water.
Offering an executive lifestyle footprint with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and a spacious 5-car garage, the premium sale highlights how discerning buyers continue to target large waterfront parcels within Robina's most prestigious pockets.

DEBATE OF THE WEEK
Does axing affordable housing mandates deliver the homes we need, or just the homes that pay?
On one side, the state government argues that slashing these requirements is the fastest way to cut red tape and trigger the supply surge Robina and Merrimac desperately need.
On the other side, residents, essential workers, and local advocates are sounding the alarm. If we prioritize speed and premium market pricing, we risk building a suburb that only the highest earners can afford. This shuts out the very people who keep our community running.
We want to hear your take. Do you support prioritizing "supply at any cost" to get construction moving, or should developers be forced to guarantee affordable housing as the price of entry into our neighborhood?
COMMUNITY & SOCIAL
The Robina Lions Club has established a localised food rescue pipeline to support vulnerable families coping with soaring grocery costs. Volunteer shifts run every Thursday morning (including June 25) from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM just over the border at Kings Community Care
Robina State High School Community Alliance’s Network Breakfast aims to break down barriers between local families, parents, carers, small business operators, and educators. Registrations have opened for the upcoming morning networking cohort hosted on campus at Laver Drive
The Robina Community Centre has launched an open, zero-cost collective gallery framework specifically for neighborhood organisations, grassroots clubs, and local hobby groups. Local groups can formally apply to secure an exhibition window.
