Good morning, Robina.
Good week in Robina. Students from Southport SHS and Robina State High School helped ship 130 kilograms of sporting gear to Fiji, and it landed just in time for the school’s athletics carnival.
On the less welcome side, the World Supercross Championship has cancelled its entire 2026 season, taking the November event at Cbus Super Stadium off the calendar with it. If you bought tickets, chase your refund now. A 50-apartment complex has been proposed for a quiet waterfront pocket on Ben Lexcen Place, and a community petition against a proposed school site on Scottsdale Drive has hit 965 signatures.
Plenty to stay across this week. Let’s get into it.

THIS WEEK IN ROBINA
Nearly 1,000 People Signed a Petition Against a New School. Here’s the Story.

A proposal to build Village Yard Christian School at 120 Mudgeeraba Road has drawn significant pushback from the area. A Queensland Parliament petition opposing the development attracted 965 signatures before closing on October 9, and was tabled in Parliament on October 13.
The objections are not about education. Residents are raising concerns about traffic, flooding risk, infrastructure capacity, and the scale of what is being proposed at that particular site.
The petition asks the Queensland Government to refuse the Ministerial Infrastructure Designation for the school - the mechanism that would allow it to proceed. That decision now sits with the government.
965 signatures is a meaningful number for a local planning petition. It signals the concerns are not coming from a small group.
The proposal has not been rejected. The petition is the community’s formal request that it should be.

Police Are Looking for Two People Who Allegedly Walked Out of a Toy Shop With a Lego Set, a Scooter and a Water Gun

It is not the most conventional shopping list, but Queensland Police are treating it seriously regardless.
On September 29 at around 5pm, a man and a woman allegedly left a toy retailer at Robina Town Centre without paying for a Lego set, a scooter and a water gun. The total reported value sits at approximately $560.
Police included the incident in a public appeal around October 10, asking anyone who recognises the pair to come forward.
There is something almost admirable about the range of the alleged haul. The Lego covers the builder in the group. The water gun covers the warm weather. The scooter covers the getaway, possibly. It is an eclectic combination for a Monday afternoon at the shops.
All jokes aside, Robina Town Centre sees a lot of foot traffic and plenty of CCTV. If you recognise either person from the police description, contact Queensland Police on 131 444 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The incident is under investigation and both individuals are alleged at this stage.

Robina’s World Supercross Event Is Off

One of the biggest international motorsport events ever scheduled for Cbus Super Stadium is no longer happening.
The World Supercross Championship announced on October 7 that it was immediately cancelling the remainder of its 2026 season. The Gold Coast round, which was set for November 21 at Cbus Super Stadium in Robina, is officially off the calendar.
To put the collapse in context: the championship ran only one round this entire season. Calgary, Canada, in August. That was it. The British Grand Prix in Birmingham was pulled in September, with organisers citing the need to secure further investment. Less than three weeks later, the whole season was gone.
Organisers say discussions with prospective investors are continuing and that they believe in the concept of a global supercross series. Whether that translates into a 2027 championship is genuinely unclear at this point.
For Robina, it is a frustrating result. Cbus Super Stadium does not host international motorsport regularly, and the November event had been one of the more unusual and genuinely exciting things on the local calendar for the year.
If you purchased tickets, do not wait for a direct contact from the organisers. Check the platform you bought through for refund information and follow up directly.

Robina Students Sent 130kg of Sporting Gear to Fiji. It Arrived Just in Time.

When Southport State High School captain Isabella Narain launched a sporting gear drive in Term 3, she had a clear target: collect what local kids no longer needed and get it to children in Fiji who did.
Robina State High School came on board as a partner, and between both schools the response was significant. More than 130 kilograms of sporting equipment and clothing was collected, sorted and shipped to Vunayasi District School in Fiji - a community that had been hit by severe weather events earlier in 2026.
Shipping 130 kilograms internationally is not cheap. Sponsors stepped in to cover costs worth several thousand dollars, which made the logistics possible.
The shipment arrived in early October, landing just in time for Vunayasi District School’s inter-house athletics carnival. The kids on the receiving end did not have to wait long after it cleared customs.
It is easy to run a donation drive and have it quietly fizzle. This one did not. Two schools, one school captain with a plan, sponsors who backed it, and 130 kilograms of gear that arrived exactly when it was supposed to.
Good on Isabella and both school communities for seeing it through.
A Teenager Was Attacked With a Machete. The Family Is Angry at What Happened in Court.

The attack happened in Mudgeeraba in May 2025. A group confrontation turned violent, weapons were involved, and a teenager was seriously injured.
Jack Lucky Williams, now 20, faced court over his role in the incident. He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm while armed and in company, and going armed to cause fear. The court heard that other participants were responsible for the most serious injuries Williams was not charged with inflicting.
The outcome: two years’ probation, $2,000 in compensation, and no conviction recorded.
The victim’s mother was not satisfied, and it is not difficult to understand why. When a teenager is attacked with a machete and the court result is probation and two thousand dollars, the gap between what families expect from the justice system and what they receive can feel very wide.
Williams’s sentence reflects what the court determined about his specific role and culpability in a group attack. Courts weigh each participant’s involvement individually, and sentences across co-accused in the same incident can differ significantly.
That legal reasoning does not make the outcome easier for the family to sit with.
The sentencing was reported on October 12, 2026.

DEBATE OF THE WEEK
Should Robina's residential side streets make room for 50-unit apartment blocks or is the density starting to push too far?
With a 2,500-home state-facilitated development now formally approved in central Robina and a 50-unit DA lodged for Ben Lexcen Place, medium-density infill is clearly accelerating across our suburb. Some see it as a necessary and long-overdue housing fix to expand local supply. Others reckon our residential side streets and quiet waterfront cul-de-sacs were never structurally engineered to carry this heavy of a commuter load.
