Good morning, Robina.
It’s a big week in Robina, and some of it is pretty wild.
Robina Hospital postponed non-urgent surgery on October 27 and 28 as demand pushed beds to the limit, though urgent care wasn’t affected. Robina’s median unit price has ticked over $1 million, which says plenty about where the market has landed. And a 173-apartment complex has been proposed near Robina Station.
On a brighter note, Southport’s new delivery robot drove straight into a garden bed during its live TV debut, and we can’t help but love it. A Mudgeeraba party house with an old-school bar and billiard room has hit the market for the first time since 1983. And Gold Coast Council has approved three detached homes for Satellite Court, just up the road.
Plenty to get across. Let’s get into it!

THIS WEEK IN ROBINA
35 Groups Inspected a House They Couldn’t Actually Go Inside

Image: https://www.abc.net.au/
A termite-damaged property in nearby Mudgeeraba attracted 35 inspection groups despite buyers not being allowed inside due to safety concerns. It has since gone under contract.
That is the Gold Coast property market doing what it does. A structurally compromised house that cannot be entered still draws a crowd and finds a buyer.
Closer to home, Robina’s median unit sale price has ticked just over $1 million. For a suburb that sits inland from the beach and built its identity around a shopping centre and a stadium, that is a number that tells you something about where the southern Gold Coast market has moved.
Whether you are buying, selling, or just watching from the sideline, Robina’s unit market is no longer the affordable alternative it once was. It is simply the market.

The Gold Coast’s New Delivery Robot Got Stuck in a Garden Bed on Live TV
Southport’s new autonomous food delivery robots - part of a DoorDash and Serve Robotics pilot - made their Australian debut last week. One of them promptly drove into a garden bed during a live TV segment.
To be fair, it is a pilot. These things are expected.
The Gold Coast is the first city in Australia to trial the Serve robot delivery service, which has been running in parts of the United States for a while now. The pilot is operating around the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct in Southport.
Whether the robots eventually make it down to Robina Town Centre is a question for another day. For now, they are navigating Southport footpaths with mixed results, and at least one of them has already had its television moment.

The Mudgeeraba Party House From 1983 Is Finally For Sale
A Mudgeeraba home has hit the market for the first time since 1983, and it looks exactly like you would expect a house purchased in 1983 to look.
Old-school bar. Billiard room. Pool. The full 1980s package, preserved and apparently ready for someone to either continue the tradition or gut-renovate it into something unrecognisable.
Mudgeeraba sits just up the hill from Robina, and properties like this do not turn up often. Someone held onto this one for over 40 years, which says something about either deep attachment or reluctance to deal with the real estate process.
Whether it sells to a buyer who keeps the bar or one who turns it into an open-plan kitchen is a genuine coin flip.

Robina Hospital Postponed Non-Urgent Surgery Over Bed Shortage

Postponed non-urgent surgery means extra waiting and changed plans for affected patients.

One Block. Three Detached Homes. Council Just Said Yes.
Gold Coast Council approved a development permit at its October 22 meeting for three detached homes and landscaping works at 1 Satellite Court, Mudgeeraba - a single suburban block just up from Robina.
The application went through the Planning and Regulation Committee before full council sign-off. It passed, though Cr Glenn Tozer declared a conflict of interest given his proximity to the site and managed it by remaining impartial and participating in the discussion.
Three dwellings on one suburban block is a modest enough project, but it is consistent with what is happening across the southern Gold Coast corridor - steady infill development filling in the gaps between established homes.
Mudgeeraba sits directly adjacent to Robina, and approvals like this one shape what the neighbourhood around the border looks like over time.
The full council minutes are on the City of Gold Coast website for anyone who wants the planning conditions.
