It has been a week of significant highs and lows for our community. Whether you’re looking for the best community events this weekend, keeping an eye on the local property market, or simply searching for a cheap feed, we’ve rounded up the latest news, updates and opportunities happening across Robina this week.

HAPPENINGS IN ROBINA
Teenage Joyriders Smash Audis Stolen From Robina and Chermside Into Three Local Police Cars

A wild property crime spree came to a crushing halt when police arrested three teenagers who allegedly rammed three separate police vehicles in a local car park.
The trio was tearing through the area using two black luxury Audis. One of them was stolen from a home right here in Robina and another from Chermside, turning local streets into a high-stakes video game before being pinned down.
When joyriders are willing to weaponise luxury cars against police vehicles, it means local security thresholds are being tested like never before.

Wild GYG Drive-Thru Meltdown Turns into a Local Manhunt

A bizarre case of road rage gripped the community over the weekend at the Guzman y Gomez on Laver Drive. Frustrated by the wait time on a rainy Saturday night, the driver of a brown Nissan Patrol tried to aggressively exit the queue.
When the hatchback in front couldn't move, the driver rammed it five times, pinning and trapping his own 4WD in the process.
He didn’t end it there. He then hopped out, threatened two teenagers in the front car with a screwdriver, locked his vehicle, abandoned his food order, and fled on foot.
The teens were treated at Robina Hospital for minor injuries, and Queensland Police are currently hunting for the runaway driver.

Local Nurse Denied Bail Over Serious Child Protection Charges

A heavy cloud hit our healthcare sector this week after a 58-year-old Robina man who worked locally as a nurse was arrested following a multi-year investigation by the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit.
Detectives allege the man misused his professional position to offend against six teenage girls between 2020 and 2024.
He was charged with stalking, indecent treatment, and child exploitation material, among other serious charges and was officially denied bail.
It’s hard to hear that trusted professionals who are supposed to be helping our kids are capable of such horrific acts. We hope justice lands swiftly and hard!

As part of the new budget, the hope is to dismantle aging infrastructure at the Robina Community Centre precinct to build advanced, free-to-use co-working creative zones, high-speed fiber upgrades, and community-led multimedia recording studios.
Rather than focusing on physical expansion, the council’s shift targets equal tech access for remote workers, local students, and elderly residents navigating an increasingly paperless city, ensuring public venues operate as functional utility hubs rather than just book repositories.
Bypassing traditional master-planned constraints, this landmark transaction saw an affluent buyer secure a colossal, ultra-luxury freestanding waterfront residence.
Sprawling across an expansive lakefront allotment featuring 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and premium lakeside entertainment zones, this massive deal proves that premium, standalone lakefront land in the heart of Robina remains heavily insulated from broader market shifts.

DEBATE OF THE WEEK
Adult Crime, Adult Time: Is the New Crisis Strategy Working, or Just Masking Recidivism?
A sharp debate over the State Government’s landmark Adult Crime, Adult Time laws has gripped the Gold Coast following a string of high-profile, machete-wielding home invasions spanning from the Sunshine Coast down to Ormeau.
Recent Queensland Government Statistician’s Office data shows an encouraging 16.7% drop in overall youth offender numbers, alongside significant dips in stolen cars and home break-ins. Supporters argue these numbers prove it’s working.
However, youth advocacy groups and criminologists push back heavily. Pointing to alarming independent safety briefs showing that 71.5% of released youth offenders in Queensland return to sentenced supervision within 12 months.
