Good morning Robina. A Robina family was assaulted in their own home before dawn while a gang botched a car theft on Redbud Lane. That is the lead this week. Beyond the crime, Council is pushing a $250 million parkland project ahead - on a floodplain - and locals have questions.
On the property front, a Newport Drive home just sold for $2.55 million, and this Saturday, Robina Town Centre turns into a car show.

CRIME / SAFETY

Robina family assaulted in 2am home invasion as teens bungle car theft on Redbud Lane
Just after 2:40 in the morning on 31 March, a group forced their way into a home on Redbud Lane, Robina. Their target was the car in the driveway - a Mercedes-Benz GLC300. They could not get it moving. So they grabbed keys and whatever else they could find, assaulted the homeowner who confronted them, and fled in a stolen white Jeep. The resident was left with minor injuries.
Queensland Police tracked the group across Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Five teenagers aged between 16 and 19 were arrested. Three have been charged with a combined 34 offences - including entering a dwelling while armed in company and attempted robbery using personal violence. Two others are still being sought.
The youngest involved was allegedly linked to similar offences dating back to December 2025. Police are asking anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the Redbud Lane and Skyview Avenue area that night to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

COUNCIL
$250 million Greenheart push: the big park Robina is getting - and the floodplain question nobody can ignore.
The city of Gold Coast is pushing ahead with Stage 2 of its Greenheart masterplan - a 257-hectare future parkland straddling Merrimac and Robina. The indicative budget for the next stage sits at around $250 million, with a target to deliver before the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic games.
Here is the part getting attention: the site sits within the Merrimac-Carrara floodplain. Council itself acknowledges the land constraints. Courier Mail reporting has highlighted the tension between the ambition of building a word-class event and recreation space and the obvious engineering challenges of doing it on land that floods.
Supporters reckon Robina needs the open space as density increases. Critics are asking hard questions about the cost of flood-resilient design and long-term maintenance. The answer to both matters - because this park is slated to become a permanent fixture in daily life for the 4226 postcode for decades to come. More detail at goldcoast.qld.gov.au

DEBATE OF THE WEEK
The Redbud Lane teens are charged. Do you think the penalties for youth crime are actually tough enough to stop it happening again?
Three teenagers - one as young as 16 - have been charged with 34 offences between them after a violent home invasion in our suburb. Two more are still being sought. It is the kind of crime that shakes a neighbourhood. But it is also the kind of crime that gets people asking whether the response from the courts will mean anything at all. The debate about youth justice in Queensland is not new. It is louder now.

LEGEND OF THE WEEK:
⭐ This Week's Legend: Ian Gay
This week's nomination goes to Ian Gay - Robina local and National President of the Disabled Surfers Association of Australia. For 20 years, Ian has been the driving force behind getting people with disabilities safely into the surf. The administrative heart of the association is based in Robina. It is quiet, unglamorous work. Exactly the kind of thing this section exists to recognise.
