Good morning Robina. A 43-year-old Robina man spent more than 20 hours drifting in open ocean off Stradbroke Island last week after a dive went wrong. He made it home. The full story is below, and it is genuinely wild.
Back on dry land, the Gold Coast Running Festival smashed attendance records at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday - nearly 3,500 runners turned up despite dodgy weather. This Saturday the stadium gets loud again when the Titans host the Raiders for Round 9, with 25 junior footy clubs invited onto the field at half-time. Let’s get into it.

Robina Diver Survives 20 Hours Drifting In Open Ocean After Stradbroke Dive Goes Wrong
A 43-year-old Robina man and a 45-year-old from Victoria Point went diving off North Stradbroke Island on Saturday 19 April. They were due back at 9:15am. They did not come back.
What followed was a massive multi-agency search. An AMSA Challenger jet finally spotted the pair at 7am on Sunday morning - drifting 2.2 nautical miles east of Main Beach, roughly 25 kilometres south of where they were last seen. That is more than 20 hours in open water.
Both men were airlifted. Both were in stable condition. Both made it home. The kind of story where you read the headline and think the worst - and this time, it worked out. The Robina man is back in the suburb.
INFRASTRUCTURE & TRANSPORT

Train Delays Extended Again
If you've been getting bus replacements out of Robina station and counting down to the end of the works, sorry. The end keeps moving.
Queensland Rail's Easter track works on the Gold Coast line have been pushed out to 30 April, sparking a fresh round of commuter fury reported in the Courier Mail on 24 April. Buses replace trains for the duration, which means longer trips for anyone heading north for work or up to school drop-offs in Helensvale or Nerang.
You can check the live status on the Queensland Rail closures calendar before you leave the house. Worth doing.

Wet Weather Could Not Stop Robina's Biggest Running Turnout Yet
The 15th annual Gold Coast Running Festival at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday 26 April drew just under 3,500 participants. That is a record for the event - the previous best was somewhere around 3,100 to 3,200 runners.
Six race distances from a three-quarter marathon down to a 1km kids' dash. And the weather was ordinary. People showed up anyway - in serious numbers. It says something about what Cbus and Robina have become as an events hub. Not just a place you drive through.
COMMUNITY

"Small But Mighty" - Robina Hospital Team Raises Five Times Their Fundraising Target
Here is a number worth sitting with. Michelle Carter and Leigh Thornton led a team called "Robina Small but Mighty" for the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation's Giving Day. Their target was $1,000. They raised $4,985. That is 498% of goal.
The money goes to medical equipment and transport for cancer patients - services that directly benefit people at Robina Hospital. Just local healthcare workers rallying their community and absolutely smashing it. Good on them.
